Description for route of synthesis:
Add theophylline into the reaction vessel, using n-propanol as the solvent and pyridine as the alkaline catalyst, stir and heat to the set temperature to dissolve theophylline; Then slowly introduce ethylene oxide and continue the reaction at this temperature until the raw material is completely converted; After the reaction is completed and cooled, the crude product is recrystallized, filtered, washed, and vacuum dried to obtain the target product β - hydroxyethyl theophylline.
