Description for route of synthesis:
Using dichloromethane as the solvent, 3,3,5,5-tetramethylcyclohexanol, triphenylphosphine, and imidazole are mixed, cooled to low temperature, and iodine is added. The hydroxyl group is converted to an iodine atom through the Appel reaction; After the reaction is complete, the target product 5-iodo-1,1,3,3-tetramethylcyclohexane is obtained by quenching, extraction, washing, drying, and purification through vacuum distillation or recrystallization.
